Written by Jón Erlendsson in a seventeenth century fracture-hand.
In the first part of the manuscript corrections occur. According to Jón Sigurðsson ( Catalogue of AM 1-239 fol. , AM 394 fol., fol. 54v) these are made by bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson and Árni Magnússon. On fol. 1r in the lower margin Sveinn Torfason stated his ownership: Þeßa sgubok ä eg Vnderskrifadur Sveirn Torfa|son Anno. 1695. His name is once repeated in the margin.
Bound in a pachment cover from 1700-1730; 291 mm x 194 mm x 38 mm Árni Magnússon wrote the title in black ink on the spine.
There are four AM-slips (a-d) inserted between the paste down and the first page, although (a) and (d) concern AM 41 fol. Slip (b) reads: Ur bök Sveins Torfasonar., and slip (c) reads: Sumstadar misskrifad.
The manuscript was written in Iceland in the seventeenth century.
The manuscript once belonged to Sveinn Torfason who also wrote his name and the date 1695 in bottom margin of fol. 1r. Jón Sigurðsson ( Catalogue of AM 1-239 fol. , AM 394 fol., fol. 54v) assumes that the previous known owner, bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson, passed the manuscript on to the priest Torfi Jónsson of Gaulverjabær, who in his turn gave it to his son Sveinn.
Jón Sigurðsson (ibid.) also assumes that Árni Magnússon acquired the manuscript from Sveinn Torfason.
