Foliated 1-240 in the upper right-hand corner; f. 160 is foliated 160-61.

Layout

The manuscript is written in long lines; The Calendar has 16 ruled lines per page whereas The Book of Hours has 12 ruled lines to the page: 600 mm x 380 mm.

Decoration

13v: 650 mm x 400 mm Virgin and child: Mary sitting on a throne with the Infant Jesus in her lap; the faces are almost completely effaced. Painted in a Flemish style c.1390-1400 with a 'Pink canopy', but ornamented with a Dutch border with gilded treefoils in penwork.

Gilted major initials and painted borders. Painted textframes at the beginning of every hour. Minor gilded initials over 2 lines with simple penwork alternating in red and blue ink. Lombards in one line alternating blue and red.

Additions

Some later additions on the originally blank leaves are found:

  • 104v-105v: A prayer to the Virgin.
  • 161v-162v: A prayer to the Virgin: “van onse vrouwe.”
  • 232v: “voer eem cruce”.
  • 235v:9-240v: Later fifteenth century additions, in the same hand as “voer eem cruce” on f. 232v.

Binding

Rebound c 1730 in a cardboard binding.

Accompanying Material
There is a slip in Árni Magnússon's hand pasted in to the first fly-leaf saying: “Ex auctione Rostgardianå Num Manuscriptorum 347”.

Written in Holland c. 1400.

The manuscript was a part of Frederik Rostgaard's collection.
Acquisition
Árni Magnússon bought the manuscript at Rostgaard's auction in 1726
