The manuscript was written for sheriff Matthías Guðmundsson and belonged to him.
The John Rylands Library bought the Bibliotheca Lindesiana, the manuscript collection of the earls of Crawford, in 1901, including the manuscripts bearing the shelfmarks Icelandic MS 1-4.
The manuscript is preserved at the John Rylands Research Institute and Library in Manchester.
