AM 764 4to is written by at least ten different hands and is therefore presumed produced in a scriptorium, most possibly Reynistaður in Skagafjörður, Northern Iceland.

The manuscript cn be divided into two parts.

Note

The second part of the manuscript contains excerpts of e.g. legends, miracles and annals. Parts of Maríu jartegnir and Vitæ patrum are interspersed between the other texts. Tveitane (Den lærde stil, 20-21, 23-24.) printed those parts of Vitæ patrum written on fols 26r and 38r-v. The following items are printed or mentioned in ONP and Wolf 2013.

48 + parchment strips: 2bis, 3bis, 4bis, 9bis and the octavo leaf 18bis. 260 mm x 165 mm.
Collation
The manuscript is not made up of regular gatherings. It is therefore not possible to determine whether the leaves are bound in their original order.
Layout

Written in one column throughout, mainly with 41 lines per page.

Initials in red or greenish blue ink; rubrics in red ink.

The bottom half of fol. 37r and the top half of fol. 37v are blank.

Condition

Several leaves have tears and small holes; a part of the text on fol. 4 is erased. Lacunae occur after fols 33, 34, 35, 37 and 40

A fragment was cut out after fol. 12.

Script

Written by a variety of hands.

A comprehensive list of contents for the first part of the manuscript in Jón Sigurðsson's hand is enclosed.

Six leaves of paper in folio format, a copy of the annal on fols 41-43 written in Jón Marteinsson's hand, are also enclosed.

Origin
Written in Iceland, 1376-1387 (see e.g. Svanhildur Óskarsdóttir 2000a 79. According to ONP, quoting Stefán Karlsson pers. 1999, fol. 33v is written c. 1550.
