Indbinding

The manuscript once was bound in a parchment binding, an old sea chart of Bali. In connection with the restoration 1969-70, the manuscript was re-bound in a BD-standard binding; 205 mm x 180 mm x 35* mm (* where widest).

Vedlagt materiale

On a slip pasted to the manuscript Árni Magnússon states: Þesse Mariu Saga er med | hendi Magnusar Einars-|sonar, ritud epter þeirre | membranâ i litlu 4to, | sem er med Knytlinga-|Sgu hendi.

The manuscript was written by the scribe Magnús Einarsson in Iceland in the beginning of the eighteenth century.

Bevaringshistorie

Conservation 18 August 1969 to 3 March 1970 by Birgitte Dall: The leaves were removed from the binding and cleaned with an eraser. It was then smoothed, repaired, and then put on meeting guards and bound in a new standard canvas-binding. The Sea chart and parchment strips - the latter serving as padding - were removed from the original binding.
