AM 37 4to

Legal Manuscript ; Denmark, 1250-1510

Bemærkning
AM 37 4to contains various secular and ecclesiastical laws written in Latin and Danish, including Anders Sunesøn's Latin paraphrase of the Provincial Law of Skåne (fols 7ra-58vb), and the Church Law of Skåne (fols 59ra-62rb). The middle section of this vellum manuscript (fols 7-62) has the oldest dating - from before 1300 - whilst the first few folia (fols 1-6) as well as the last section (fols 63-123) are from the late fifteenth/early sixteenth century (these two parts are described below as I and II respectively). The manuscript was composed in Denmark.

Written in two contemporary older Gothic bookhands.

Tilføjelser

The bottom margin of fol. 61v has a verse couplet, known as Skåningestrofenwritten in a contemporary hand: hauí that skanunga ærliki mææn toco vithar oræt aldrigh æn. The originally blank fol. 62v contains notes in Danish and Latin.

Herkomst

Written in Denmark in the second half of the thirteenth century ( Kroman 1943 s. 52 ). Kålund's dating: c. 1300 ( Katalog I s. 363 ).

Proveniens

Fol. 1r has a sixteenth century note that reads: Istud legisterium Est sedis lundensis . This suggests that the manuscript once belonged to the archbishopric of Lund. Kroman assumes that the manuscript was written in the scriptorium of Lund Cathedral ( Palæografi s. 52 ).

Herkomst

Written in Denmark in the fifteenth century or c. 1500. Kålund dates it to c. 1500 ( Katalog ), and Erik Kroman dates it to the fifteenth century ( Kroman 1943 s. 52 ). Both datings are possible.

Proveniens

Fol. 122v has a wax seal with the coat of arms of the Rantzau family.
