Kveraskipan

The manuscript is made up of eleven quires + one leaf. Originally the quires were of eight leaves each.

Ástand

The leaves have suffered some damage due to exposure to damp and moths.

  • The first two, presumably blank, leaves are cut out.
  • Only the first leaf and a slip of the last leaf are preserved. The leaves in between these are cut out. Árni Magnússon cut out three leaves of this quire.

Skrifarar og skrift

Written in a large script by Thorgerus Haquini (Þorgeir Hákonarson). The same hand also wrote AM 305 fol., AM 56 4to and AM 78 4to (Norges gamle Love IV 473).

Skreytingar
The manuscrit is beautifully decorated in blue, green and red ink the same fashion as other manuscripts written by Thorgerus Haquini.

Large, flourished initials with the first line of each main section consisting entirely of initials. Flourishing in contrasting colour. See e.g. fols 1r and 12r.

Initials (2-3 linjes) with flourishing in contrasting colour.

Rubrics and colour-stroked initials in red ink.

Spássíugreinar og aðrar viðbætur

Occasional younger marginalia:

  • In the open space before the explicit (of Réttarbœtr Eiríks Magnússonar) a sixteenth century-hand added: In proprias laudes odiosa jactatio est. O M.
  • In the bottom margin of fol. 62r, a hand from c. 1400 wrote: læirhæims skogh (Lørenskog, Romerike).
  • In the first half of the sixteenth century, one of Eske Bille's scribes added notes in the margins throughout the manuscript. E.g. fol. 6r Om Steffning, p. 86 Om Godtz ligger lx wedtther eller lenger: thet bliffuer odall, fol. 45r Odall igjenn att løse indenn lx wettre, fol. 76r Kiøb som breff og Segl er paa giort thet scall holdis wid macht.

Band

Laced grey parchment case with traces of brass clasps.

When the manuscript was bound, recycled parchment was used as material for the pastedowns. This parchment contain pen trials from the first half of the sixteenth century, one of them reading Jeg hanss erichsenn hoffuitzmand paa Bahuss (I am Hans Eriksen, manager of Bohus Fortress).

Uppruni og ferill

Uppruni
Norway, c. 1300. As mentioned above, Árni Magnússon removed three leaves from the last quire, written in the beginning of the sixteenth century. See AM 32 a 4to and AM 32 b 4to.
