The first 40 columns are numbered 1-40. Foliation in the upper right-hand corner is found on fols 3r , 7r , 9r , 10r , 11r .
9 quires:
- I (4 leaves): 1+4, 2+3 conjugate
- II (2 leaves): 5+6 conjugate
- VI (3 leaves):8+10 conjugate, 9 is a singleton
- V (8 leaves): 11+18, 12+17, 13+16, 14+15 conjugate
- VI (8 leaves): 19+26, 20+25, 21+24, 22+23
- VII(5 leaves): 27+31, 28+29 conjugate, 30 is a singleton
- VIII (7 leaves): 32+38, 33+36, 34+35 conjugate, 37 is a singleton
- IX (5 leaves): 39+43, 41+42 conjugate 40 is a singleton.
The manuscript is written in double columns. The number of lines per column varies from 36 to 38. Rubrics are in red.
The leaves of the codex are blackened and damaged, especially the 10 first leaves because of their former use as bindings. As a result of trimming these 10 leaves are also slightly smaller than the other leaves.
The major initials on fol. 12r (the beginning of Magnús saga góða ) and on fol. 18v are litterae florissae with branches and leaves.
The black pen-flourished majuscules that open each chapter fill two or three lines. They seems to be younger than the text and many of them are extended in the margin.
At the bottom of fol. 7v Árni Magnússon has written: þetta blad kom til mïn ur Middlum 1704 in April , and at the bottom of fol. 9r he has written: Utan af qvere fra Sigride Erlendzdottur Olafs sonar p rests ad Melstad
The manuscript is bound in a BD-standard binding with black leather spine and leathered cornerpieces. 290 mm x 245 mm x 62 mm
Árni Magnússon has written some information about the acquisition of fols 1-6 and 8 and 10 on four accompanying slips; their content is given above under acquisition.
History
Written in Iceland c. 1300.
According to Árni Magnússon
- fols 1 and 4 and 5-6 served as binding for two books belonging to Jón Guðmundsson , Vicar of Hítardalur or the Priest Oddur . Árni Magnússon tells that it then belonged to some people at Skarð in Skarðsströnd .
- fols 2 and 3 served as binding for Eyrbyggja belonging to the clergyman Þórður Jónsson of Hítardalur , the next owner mentioned by Árni Magnússon is Þorsteinn Þórðarson .
- Fols 8 and 9 belonged to Árni's father, Magnús Jónsson .
Árni Magnússon has provided some information concerning the acquisition of fols 1-6 , 8 and 10 on four accompanying slips.
- The note pertaining to fols 1 and 4 reads: Þesse 2 bld feck eg ä Skarde ä Skardzstrnd 1703. og voru þau utanum qver er att hafdi Sr Jon Gudmundson i Hitardal (helldur en n Sr Oddur , eg man þ ad öglgt)
- The note pertaining to fols 2-3 reads: Þesse 2 bld voru utanum Eyrbyggiu er Þorsteinn Þordarson feck mi er anno 1686. hver Eyrbyggia komin var fra Sr Þorde Jonssyne i Hitardal
- The note pertaining to fols 5 and 6 is the same as the first note.
- The note pertaining to fols 8 and 10 reads: þetta blad (i.e. fols 8 and 10 ) var utan um qver er att hafdi fader minn M I S . At the bottom of fol. 7v Árni Magnússon has written: þetta blad kom til mïn ur Middlum 1704 in April

- Regarding fols 11-43 no further information is given, but according to Kristian Kålund a brief note on fol. 40v in AM 435 a 4to possibly refers to these leaves: Ur Snorra Sturlu sonar æfe Noregs k onun ga fragment. folio .

The manuscript was photographed in 1970 .
During the conservation from 10.02.1970 - 20.02.1970 the manuscript was separated and some brown strips were removed.
During the conservation from 18.02.1971 - 28.05.1971 the leaves were restored and attached to meeting guards. In this period the manuscript was rebound.
