Note

The manuscripts consist of two, originally independent, main sections written by two different hands. The first section comprises the first six leaves, wile the other section comprises the last 35 leaves. Neither of those two parts are complete.

Menota has an electronic, diplomatic edition of the entire manuscript (Leeuw van Weenen, De xii abusivis saeculi, Prosper’s Epigrams, Gregory’s Homilies on the Gospels, Gregory’s Dialogues).

The manuscript was incomplete when Árni Magnússon acquired it, and despite his inquiries he was unable to discover what was missing.

History

Origin
Written in Iceland in the beginning of the thirteenth century ( Konráð Gíslason 1846 p. xciv , Seip 1949 p. 10 and ( Hreinn Benediktsson 1965 p. xix ). Kålund's dating: c. 1200 ( Katalog II p. 94 ).
Provenance
On fol. 22v in his catalogue of Icelandic parchment manuscripts, AM 435 a 4to, Árni Magnússon noted thatthe manuscript originates from Kálfafell i Fljótshverfi, where it had been preserved in the church. Ísleifur and the people from Kálfafell were of the opinion that the book contained. Karlamagnús saga.
Acquisition
Árni Magnússon acquired the manuscript from the sýslumaður Ísleifur Einarsson.
