• The manuscript is written in one column with 32 to 33 lines per page and 13 to 15 words per line.
• The written area measures ca. 170 mm x 130-140 mm.

The paper is rather dark, especially at the original quire boundaries.

Some leaves have suffered damage at the edges and have been repaired (by means of attaching paper).

Some leaves are stained.

Written by Steindór Ormsson.

Pen-flourished chapter initials of varying size (2-8 lines) and varying detail. Occasionally, initials are inhabited by a face (e.g. fols 11v and 26v).

Some of the catchwords are ornamented and many of these have short cross-lines.

The fore-edges are painted red. The same colour is visible on the younger flyleaves.

There are three small decorative ornaments at the end of the last text.

Fol. 1r has the following note: Þeſsa Bock a Eg undirſkryfadur med Riettu en Einginn annar med Riettu Eg ad henne kominn þui Eg hefi hanna ad Riettum Endum Teckid eptir minn ſaluga og aſt kiæra fodur ſteinþor ormſon og til merkis hier um ſet Eg mitt eigid ſkirnar nafn hier vndir med Eiginn hende og liufum uilia Jon ſteinþorsſon Jngri m E h.

Below, a different hand wrote: Anno 1709 Joon ſteinþoors ſon a bookena med Riettu. E n d e r f i i n i s

On the verso of the last front flyleaf, a table of contents of the remaining sagas is added in a neat humanist script.

A few variants occur in the margins.

Numbers are scribbled in the margins, some in ink (e.g. fol. 27v), some in pencil (e.g. fol. 8v).

There are two AM-slips pasted onto the first two front flyleaves, both in Árni Magnússon's hand:

• AM-slip a (185 mm x 142 mm) reads: Poſtula Sgur. ur bok i 4to, ſem eg keypte 1710. af Jorunne i ytra Hiardardal i nundar firde, konu Jons Steindorsſonar yngra. Eru med hendi Steindors ormsſonar. A. M. and Halldor Biarnaſon i Breidadal ä Exemplar in 8vo, ſkrifad epter þeſſu. Dixit et vidi ipſe 1710.
• AM-slip b (160 mm x 140 mm) reads: Halldor Biarnaſon i Breidadal i Onundarfirde ſagde mier 1710. ad Steindor ormsſon hefde þeſſa bok ſkrifad epter bok Sigmundar Gudmundzſonar ä Selialande i Skutilsfirde, ſem vered hefdi i litlu folio. hefdi ſu bok ſidan tviſtrast i ſundur, og vered brukud til ſköledurs

The manuscript was written in Iceland. Kålund (Katalog II s. 44) dates it to the seventeenth century.

Árni Magnússon bought a larger manuscript, of which this was a part, from Jórunn in Ytri Hjarðardalur in Önundarfjörður in 1710 (see accompanying material).
