Written in two columns.

Ástand

Only fols 3 and 5 are all full size leaves the others have lost more or less of the margins. Several leaves are badly worn or have holes and tears.

  • Fol. 1 is badly worn and the top has been excised including some of the top lines.
  • Fol. 2 is split vertically, however, with no damage to the text.
  • Fol. 7 is almost illegible due to wear.
  • Fol 8 is excised at the top.
  • Fol. 10 is crumbled at the top along the spine and is illegible due to wear.
  • Fol. 13 is almost illegible and damaged near the spine.

Skrifarar og skrift

Written by a practiced Icelandic Gothic book hand. The hand has been identified as the hand who wrote parts of e.g. AM 226 fol.,AM 350 fol. (Skarðsbók), AM 347 fol. (Belgsdalsbók) and AM 73 b fol. (Bæjarbók á Rauðasandi). For an exhaustive list of manuscripts written by this hand, see Drechsler 2021, 52 table 5.

Pen-flourished initials occur in red and dark blue. Rubrics in red.

Fylgigögn

There are two AM-slips.

  • The first is written by one of Árni Magnússon's scribes, concerning fol. 4: Þetta Sverris sgu blad feck eg 1706 af Arna Hannessyne, og hafde hann þad fundid j rusle ä ytra Hölme, og var þar eckert meira þess slags. Þad er manifestè ur sama volumine sem þad eina blad ur Magnuss sgu lagabætis er eg fenged hefe utan af Kvere Hannesar Þorleifssonar.
  • The second AM slip, concerning fol. 13, is written by Árni Magnússon: Þetta blad var utanum qver, er att hafdi Hannes Þorleifsson.
  • Another 3 leaves are subjoined, these contain a copy of f. 13 written by Þórður Þórðarsson.

Uppruni

Written in Iceland c. 1370 ( Stefán Karlsson 196728 ). Kålund's date: c. 1400 ( KKKat I 564 ).

Ferill

On fols 2r and 4r a seventeenth century hand wrote: Snæbjörn Steffánsson , and on fol. 11r the name snore asgeirsson appears.

According to the AM-slip concerning fol. 13 the leaf was used as binding material for a book belonging to Hannes Þorleifsson.

Aðföng

Árni Magnússon got the fragments from several places. According to the AM-slips, Árni Magnússon acquired fol. 4 in 1706 from Árni Hannesson, A note in Árni Magnússon's hand on f. 9r reads: i Reyk hollt 1707. Another note in the bottom margin of fol. 10r says: Ur Aust fiordum 1711 . According to Fornmanna sögur IX fol. 7 was bought at an auction in Copenhagen.

The MS was set on new meeting guards and put in a new cover 10.03.1980-31.03.1980.

The binding was provided with a shelfmark and a title on the spine 4. október 1961.
