Uppruni og ferill

Uppruni

This Norwegian legal manuscript is written in either Denmark or Norway in the sixteenth century. The main manuscript is written in 1543, but it also contains various younger additions from the sixteenth century.

Ferill

On 1v the following provenance notes, tracing the book to South-Western Norway are found: Thenne bog kommer Michel Eskelsøn tiill oc wor hannem giffuen af hans gode venn and Thenne bog er mig skienckitt aff mynn broder och gode wenn Mickel Eskellsen. Chresten Tranne, mynn egen handt. According to these statements Mikkel Eskildsen, who originally got the manuscript from a friend, presented his brother or brother-in-law Christen Trane with the book. Both men were residents of South-Western Norway. About a century later the manuscript came into the possession of Torfæus, as No 19 qv in his collection.

Aðföng

Árni Magnússon acquiered the manuscript of Torfæus' widow in 1720.
