Lýsing á handriti

Blaðefni

Parchment.

Blaðfjöldi
103.
Tölusetning blaða

There are red numbers of chapters and rubrics. At times room for initials and rubrics has been left open.

Kveraskipan
210 mm x 156 mm

The manuscript consists of 13 gatherings of 8 leaves each. The last leaf of the 1st gathering has been cut away.

Ástand

The script has been touched up on 8r-103r. Possibly there were more leaves after thirteenth gathering containing more of Retterbøder. This is presumed as two leaves of the very same size and on which the script is the same as the script of 3rd hand in this manuscript, are found in the Record Office of Norway. Apparently Árni Magnússon removed the leaves from the manuscript and they were integrated in his collection of diplomas. These leaves came to >Geheimearkivet by a mistake and later they ended up on their present location. On the verso page of the first of these leaves is a sentence written by Árni Magnússon „deest unicum folium“.

Umbrot

The manuscript is written in 2 coloumns throughout.

Skrifarar og skrift

The first hand occurs on 1r-7v and is an early gothic bookhand.

The second hand occurs on 8r-103r and is also an early gothic bookhand.

The third hand is found on 103v and is an early gothic cursive.

The fourth and last hand of this manuscript is found in last 13 lines of 103v and is also an early gothic cursive. The scribe was a Lawman named Hans Jacobsen Loe.

Skreytingar

The initials are red, blue or green.

Spássíugreinar og aðrar viðbætur

There are younger marginalia from the sixteenth and seventeenth century.

Band

Brown tooled leather binding on wooden boards. The back is younger than the rest. Originally there were metal fittings on the upper and lower board. Now the holes are the only traces left of the corners pieces, center pieces and bosses.

Uppruni og ferill

Uppruni

The manuscript is written in Norway. Kristian Kålund has dated the manuscript to the fourteenth century, but Gustav Storm (Storm, 1885, p. 547) has dated 1ra-7va to 1330-1350 and has also presumed that these folios could be Icelandic, whereas the rest of them are Norwegian. 8ra-130rb:22 have been dated to c. 1320, a dating on which Marius Hægstad (Hægstad, 1907, p. 156) and Mikjel Sørlie (Sørlie, 1936, p. 468) agree. Finally 103va-103vb:22 have been dated to c. 1330.

Ferill

The manuscript was owned by Hans Loe in 1570, as his version of Landsloven in the Deichmann manuscript 11 8vo is based on the version occuring in this manuscript AM 60 4to.
