This is a copy of AM 59 a 4to (Storm: Norges gamle LoveIVs. 546).
„Nu skipta menn brædur tveir edur fleire ödulum syn ä mille“

Chapters 1-17 of King Magnus Hákonarson lagabætir's National Law
Possibly contemporary pagination in brown ink in the upper outer corner of each leaf which is continued on the replacement leaf at the end (1-7). The flyleaf is unnumbered.
Modern foliation in pencil in the bottom of the recto pages (1-4). Again, the flyleaf is not numbered.
The manuscript is written in one column with 28-30 lines per page and 18-20 words per line.
The written area measures ca. 165 mm x 130-140 mm.
The paper is in a fairly good condition.
Some leaves have suffered damage at the edges.
The edges are untrimmed.
Remains of earlier repair is visible on the inner edge of fol. 1, but has been replaced by Japanese tissue.
The singletons 2 + 3 have been joined using Japanese tissue.
The leaves are slightly discoloured from dirt, particularly around the edges.
An unknown scribe wrote fols. 1r-3v.
One of Árni Magnússon's scribes wrote fol. 4r (see Katalog Is. 378).
The initials are only slightly emphasized, but occasionally they are a bit larger than the text (1-2 lines).
The bifolio i+4 was added to the manuscript in Árni Magnússon's time and one of his scribes wrote the end of the text on fol. 4r.
The title Odals balkur. is written in brown ink on the recto of the front flyleaf in Árni Magnússon's hand.
On fol. 1v the shape of a cross was added. On the facing lines, two words are underlined (both in pencil).
Fol. 2r shows a marginal note in a different script (kurrent instead of chancery), but is presumably written by the main scribe.
Cardboard binding covered in grey handmade paper. Waste paper was used for the pastedowns.
The original shelfmark, AM 59 A, is written on the upper board in black ink. This has subsequently been corrected to AM 59 B by a later hand using lighter ink. Below, the title, Odals bälkr. is written in black ink. The shelfmark is repeated several times by different hands on the upper pastedown and the front flyleaf.
Stored in one box with AM 59 a 4to.
The manuscript was probably written in Iceland.
Kålund (KatalogIs. 378) dates it to c. 1700.
It is unclear whether the added bifolium and note by Árni Magnússon containing information on the provenance of the manuscript (bound with AM 59 a 4to) belong to AM 59 a 4to or AM 59 b 4to. (See also Storm: Norges gamle LoveIV s. 546 ).
