Efnisorð

Lýsing á handriti

Blaðefni
Paper with watermark. There is a coat of arms of Amsterdam watermark on the front flyleaf and fol. 4. Another watermark depicting a pair of wings or antlers (?) is visible on fol. 1.
Blaðfjöldi
i + 4. 200-203 mm x 162-164 mm
Tölusetning blaða

There is possibly contemporary pagination in brown ink in the upper outer corner of every leaf, which is continued on the replacement leaf in the back (1-7). The flyleaf is not counted.

There is later foliation in pencil on the bottom of the recto pages (1-4). Again, the flyleaf is not counted.

Kveraskipan

  • I: Front flyleaf- fol. 4 (i + 4, 1, 2, 3), i.e. the flyleaf and the last leaf form a bifolium, the original leaves are three singletons.

There are no catchwords.
Ástand

The paper is in fairly good condition.

Some leaves have suffered damage at the edges.

The edges are untrimmed.

Remnants of earlier reapir is visible on the inner edge of fol. 1, but has been replaced by Japanese paper.

The singletons 2 + 3 have been joined using Japanese paper.

The leaves are slightly discoloured from dirt, in particular around the edges.

Umbrot

The manuscript is written in one column with 28 to 30 lines per page and 18 to 20 words per line.

The dimensions of the written area are ca. 165 mm x 130-140 mm.

Skrifarar og skrift

An unknown scribe wrote fols. 1r-3v.

One of Árni Magnússon's scribes wrote fol. 4r (see Kålund: Katalog bindi I s. 378).

Skreytingar

The initials are hardly emphasized, but at times written somewhat larger (1-2 lines).

Spássíugreinar og aðrar viðbætur

The front flyleaf and fol. 4 form a bifolio which is a later addition from Árni Magnússon's time. One of his scribes has written the end of the text on fol. 4r.

The title Odals balkur. is written in brown ink on the recto-side of the front flyleaf in Árni Magnússon's hand.

On fol. 1v there is a later marginal note in the shape of a cross executed in pencil. On the same line, two words are underlined (also using pencil)

Fol. 2r shows a marginal note in a different script type (kurrent instead of chancery), but is presumably written by the main scribe.

Band

The binding is made out of cardboard covered in grey handmade paper. Printed material is used in the pastedowns.

The original shelfmark designation on the front cover is „AM 59 A“ using black ink, corrected to „AM 59 B“ by a later hand isung lighter ink. Below, the title „Odals bälkr.“ is written in black ink. The shelfmark is repeated several times in different hands inside the front cover and on the front flyleaf.

Stored in one box with AM 59 a 4to.

Uppruni og ferill

Uppruni

The manuscript was probably written in Iceland.

Kålund (Katalog bindi I s. 378) dates it to c. 1700.

Ferill

It is unclear if the added bifolium and note by Árni Magnússon with provenance information, now found in AM 59 a 4to, belongs to that copy or rather this. (See also Storm: Norges gamle Love bindi IV s. 546).
