Ástand

The fore edge of the leaves is untrimmed.

There are a couple of stains on the paper, mostly in the margins. The paper has been cleaned.

The ink bleeds through the paper.

The manuscript has suffered some damage (mostly on the lower part) due to moisture and fungus.

Umbrot

  • The text is written in one column with 33-38 lines per page and 8-10 words per line.
  • The written area measures ca. 245-250 mm x 125-130 mm.
  • There are running titles.

Skrifarar og skrift

Written by Ásgeir Jónsson.

Skreytingar

The initials were written slightly larger than the main text (1-2 lines) and are partly flourished.

There is red and blue colouring on the top and bottom edges.

Spássíugreinar og aðrar viðbætur

There are marginal notes in Torfæus's hand.

There are reddish-brown underlinings in the text.

Band

The current binding 431 mm x 313 mm x 30 mm is a half binding with parchment from Árni Magnússon's time on the spine (ca. 1700-1730) and yellowish-brown marbled paper on the boards. The boards were formerly covered with reused parchment leaves from an antiphonary which were taken off under Kristian Kålund and replaced with the marbled paper (ca. 1911-1913). The removed leaves are now part of Access. 7 (Hs 40).

Fylgigögn

An AM-slip (130 mm x 105 mm) is attached to the verso-side of the first front flyleaf of the manuscript. Árni Magnússon has written on it: „Fra Sal. Assessor Thormod Torfasons Enke 1720.“

Uppruni og ferill

Uppruni

The manuscript was probably written in Norway. Kålund dates it to ca. 1700 (Katalog bindi I s. 163).

Ferill

The whole manuscript, of which this was a part, was given to Árni Magnússon in 1720 by Torfæus's widow. Thormodus Torfæus probably commissioned the manuscript, since it was written by his scribe Ásgeir Jónsson.
