Innihald

Knýtlinga saga
Athugasemd

Printed but never published.

Most of the copies of this first print languished in the printer’s attic, eaten by rats and mice, before the the edition was ever published and, probably, bound. Presumably a preface was missing. AM 393 fol. is another copy, a third is found IN the Royal Danish Library, a fourth possibly in Oslo.

Árni Magnússon might have translated the saga into Latin, Jón Ólafsson and his brother, Erlendur, then edited the text for the edition.

Kålund ( Katalog I s. 18 ) attribute the last handwritten page (p. 269) to Jón Ólafsson from Grunnavík. The hand, however, most likely belongs to his brother, Erlendur Ólafsson.

Spássíugreinar og aðrar viðbætur

Later added marginalia in places.

Band

Half-binding with spine and corners of marbled leather, possibly from the end of the eighteenth century. The boards are covered in marbled paper . Size of binding: 336 mm x 225 mm x 22 mm

The spine is divided into six panels by seven line segments; the title was embossed in the second section from the top. The Foot of the spine carries the initials of the Copenhagen University Library: B.U.H.

In all likelihood this is the first binding of the manuscript, made when the volume entered the collection. On pp. 47-48 it can be noticed that the pages were cut after the marginalia was written.
