Band

The manuscript is bound in a grey cardboard binding (full binding). On the front cover, 777b was written in brown ink, to which -d was added in black ink. On the spine, two stickers are found; a blueish sticker containing the shelfmark and a round, serrated sticker containing the running title. The upper pastedown is made of blank white paper and the lower pastedown is of blueish handmade paper. The upper pastedown is part of a bifolium, the second part of which forms the front flyleaf and carries a note in Árni Magnússon's hand (cf. AM 777 b 4to, additions). A slim strip of the lower pastedown is folded around the last quire of the manuscript. AM 777 b 4to was not bound with the rest of the manuscript initially but was added slightly later.

Later foliation in purple ink (1-5) occur. This foliation was written on the verso-sides of the leaves which are folded inwards. A later foliation (2-5) in pencil was added in the bottom left-hand corners of the recto-sides of most leaves. This foliation is only visible when the leaves are spread out .
Kveraskipan

  • I: fols. 1-5 (1, 2+5, 3+4)

There are no quire signatures. There are no catchwords.
Umbrot

  • The text is written in one column with 27-29 lines per page and 8-10 words per line.
  • The written area measures ca. 225 mm x 140 mm.

Ástand

The leaves are in folio, but the front and bottom edges are folded in order to make them fit the quarto format.

Due to the folding, the condition of the leaves is rather poor. The material is very fragile, especially close to the spine and at the bottom outer corners.

The leaves have been repaired using regular white paper.

There are many traces of wear; mostly stains and tears.

Skrifarar og skrift

The scribe has not been identified yet.

Skreytingar

The first letters of a paragraph or a line are often larger (2-3 lines) and some of them are pen-flourished.

Spássíugreinar og aðrar viðbætur

Árni Magnússon wrote on the recto-side of the front flyleaf (205 mm x 160 mm): Þetta um Grænland
