History

Origin

The fragment was dated by Kålund to the first half of the fourteenth century. Guðmundur Þorláksson (Guðmundur Þorláksson1881, p. xiii) and Kirsten Wolf (Wolf 1995, p. xxxiii), however, dated it more correctly to c. 1300.

Provenance

The origin and the history of the fragment are obscure. On a slip of paper belonging to all the AM 655 4to fragments there is a note in Árni Magnússon's hand: “Fragmenta antiqvæ scripturæ. Non nulla reliqvis fasciculis insunt sed perpauca.”
