Physical Description

Support

Parchment.

No. of leaves
90. 243 mm x 170 mm
Collation

There are 11 gatherings consisting of eight leaves each; the last quire consists of two leaves.

Condition

The first and the last leaves show traces of exposure to damp, and the lower margin of f. 76 is torn. According to the AM-slips, the manuscript once contained four leaves comprising a list of bishops for Nidaros and short pieces concerning ecclesiastical affairs. These were, however, damaged due to exposure to damp and Arní Magnússon transcribed these and thereafter removed the damaged leaves. (Árni Magnússon's transcriptions are now catalogued as AM 683 b 4to and Addit 7 e 8vo).

Layout

The manuscript is written long lines with 27 ruled lines per leaf.

Script

The manuscript is written in a Gothic bookhand from the beginning of the fourteenth century.

Decoration

The initials are red and blue, and there are rubrics and running titles in red.

Binding

The manuscript is bound in a brown tooled leather binding. A folio of a Latin church manuscript has been inserted and now serves as endleaves for this manuscript.

Accompanying Material

There are four AM-slips a-d:

  • a:“Hier aptanvid hofdu vered nockur pergaments blod. Þar á hafde sidan skrifad vered med hondu eigi gomlum eitt og annad reattarbota rusl i bagadre Norsku. Eg skar þese blod burt, og uppskrifade þad sem á var skrifad separatim, eydilagdi blodin. Apographa mea alibi habeo.”
  • b:“Framanvid þessa logbok voru þá eg bokina eignadizt) innbunden 4 pergaments blod jafnstór bokenne. og sást til residius annarra 4ra i kiolnum, sem burt voru skorenn. hafde i fyrstu vered 1 quer innihaldende 8 blod.
