Parchment.
The manuscript is provided with a foliation in the upper right-hand corner. Fol. 4 is foliated 129 by Jón Sigurðsson, presumably because this leaf once was joined together with AM 68 fol, which consists of 128 leaves.
The manuscript is written in long lines with 32 lines per page. Rubrics in red, majuscules in red and green.
All the leaves, but especially f. 4, are worn and full of holes and only the inner half of f. 5 is preserved. It is evident that the leaves once served as binding; one of the sides of the leaves (1v, 2r, 3v, 4r, 5r) are more worn because it was the page turning out. In some parts the parchment has become so dark or the writing so indistinct, that reading is difficult or impossible.
The manuscript is written in a clear and practiced Icelandic Gothic bookhand.
A couple of hardly legible marginalia occur on f. 4r.
The note on the former front cover written by Árni Magnússon is maintained. It writes: Fragment ur Olafs Sỏgu Helga egregio Codice. feinged fra Halfdane Jons syne ä Reykim i ỏlvese.
The manuscript is written in Iceland. Kristian Kålund has dated the manuscript to s. XIV, whereas Oscar Albert Johnsen and Jón Helgason has dated the manuscript more precisely to s. XIV 2/4.
The only known owner of the manuscript is Hálfdan Jónsson.
According to Árni Magnússons note on the old cover (see above) he acquired the manuscript from Hálfdan Jónsson.
