The manuscript is made of 132 parchment leaves incl. the first leaf that was at some point glued to the inside of the front cover as the pastedown.

Layout

The text is written in one column with ca. 20 lines per page.

The written area is ca. 70 mm x 50 mm.

Script

Written by Johannes Thun.

Decoration

The major initials are executed in gold leaf with red and blue penflourish: fol. 1r "M" (10 lines), fol. 6r "B" (7 lines), fol. 34r "S" (7 lines), fol. 79r "T" (7 lines).

Minor initials are alternating red and blue lombards (1-3 lines).

There are red paragraph signs and some sentence initials are colour-stroked in red.

There are red headlines and in the Provicial Law of Jutland chapter numbers are written in roman numerals in the outer margins next to the headlines.

Additions

On a slip of parchment which is glued to the inner side of lower board there is a property evaluation from ca. 1500.

In the margins of several pages there are younger additions, mostly personal names but also notes and pen trials. Some of them written up-side down (e.g. fols. 9v-10r.

Binding

Pressed leather binding with clasps and a red book block. The front of the binding is embossed “IACOB | WITKER(?)” The back is embossed “| ANNO |1581”.

Accompanying Material

In the same box as the manuscript is material that was removed from the manuscript during conservation: the old bluish-green sticker displaying the shelfmark, remains of older sewing thread and remains from dry-cleaning.

Origin
The manuscript was written in Horsnes in Denmark by Johannes Thun in 1480.
