There are no quire signatures. There are no catchwords.
Condition

There are many traces of wear and especially the bottom right corner is often darker than the rest of the leaves.

Ff. 29-31 are missing the bottom outer corner, which has been cut off.

There is damage from moisture and liquid at the outer edge of many leaves.

The parchment has a few small holes.

Layout

The main text is written in a single column, and most often has 21 lines per page but wide margins, that often contain Latin glossary.

The size of the main column is approximately 70 mm x 55 mm.

Script

The majority of the manuscript was written by one scribe in the end of the 15th century.

Leaves 2r-14v, that contain a list of contents of The Provincial Law of Jutland, are written in a hand from ca. 1500.

Leaves 235v-236v are written by a third scribe from the 16th century.

Decoration

Red headings.

The manuscript has red or blue initials. Large initials with pen flourish in red and blue are found on ff. 15r, 19r, 66r, 67v, 70v, 142r,, 142v, 144r.

Additions

Some marginalia here and there.

The flyleaf (leaves 1), ff. 237r-238r and some leaves in the margin have inscriptions from different owners from the beginning of the 17th century, who had the manuscript for shorter or longer periods:

Pressed leather binding. 150 mm x 110 mm x 65 mm.

History

Origin

The majority of the manuscript was written in the end of the 15th century, while the leaves 2r-14v are written ca. 1500, and leaves 235v-236v are written in the 16th century.

Provenance

  • Jens Poulssen owned the book until 4th of May 1601.
  • Niels Jenssen owned the book from 4th of May 1601- 19th of September 1602 and 19th of July 1613 (or therafter)-24th of January 1614. He is also the last known owner from the period, since he owned the book again from the 5th of January 1619 on.
  • Anders Jenssen owned the book from the 19th of September 1602 - 17th of September 1604.
  • Peder Selgenssen owned the book from the 17th of September 1604 - sometime before the 19th of July 1613.
  • Niells Matzen owned the book from the 19th of July 1613 and thereafter it returned to Niels Jenssen.
  • Mourits Christenssen owned the book from the 24th of January 1614-5th of January 1619, when he returned it to Niels Jenssen.
