The manuscript was incomplete when Árni Magnússon acquired it, and despite his inquiries he was unable to discover what the missing portions were.

History

Origin
The manuscript is written in Iceland. Kålund dated the manuscript to c. 1200 (

Katalog vol. II p. 94

), whereas Konráð Gíslason (

Um frum-parta Íslenzkrar túngu í fornöld p. xciv

), Seip (

The Arna-Magnæan Manuscript 677, 4to p. 10

) and Hreinn Benediktsson (

Early Icelandic Script p. xix

) dateret the manuscript 1200-tallets første fjerdedel.
Provenance
I Arne Magnussons Katalog over islandske middelalderhåndskrifter AM 435 a 4to har han noteret på bl. 22v, at håndskriftet stammer fra Kálfafell i Fljótshverfi, where it had been preserved in the church. Ísleifur and the people from Kálfafell were of the opinion that the book contained. Karlamagnús saga.
Acquisition
Arne Magnusson har erhvervet håndskriftet fra sysselmanden Ísleifur Einarsson.
