Condition

The first 6 lines of f. 2 has been cut away and the first word on f. 2ra is therefore missing. The outer sides of f. 5 has also been cut away and has therefore caused that the first 1 or 2 letters of each side is missing. The leaves are all in all damaged because of wear and tears.

Layout

The manuscript is written in double columns with 41 lines per column. Rubrics in red, majuscules in varying colours.

Script

The manuscript is written in a practised Icelandic Gothic bookhand.

History

Origin

The manuscript is written in Iceland. Kristian Kålund has dated the manuscript to the fourteenth century wheras Finnur Jónsson and Jonna Louis-Jensen has dated the manuscript more precisely to the beginning of the fourteenth century.

Acquisition

The only evidence of the aquisition of the manuscript is that on f. 1r and 2r concerning only those two leaves.

  • Árni Magnússon got f. 1r in 1703 from an unnamed man from Garður in Suðrnesjum, but the leaf came from the northern Iceland; the man could not account for where he has got it.
  • f. 2 was given to Árni Magnússon from Eyólfur of Þorkelstaðir, Grindavík 1704.

During the conservation 02.03.1958-04.04.1959 the manuscript was set on meeting guards and put in a cover.
