History

Origin

The manuscript was finished on 31 January 1654 in Iceland. It was once part of a larger codex which was divided up by Árni Magnússon. The first part of the codex is now preserved in AM 342 4to, followed by AM 285 4to and AM 587c 4to. According to a now lost note by Árni Magnússon in AM 342 4to, the last part of the codex contained a now lost Sálus saga ok Nikanórs and maybe more lygisögur.

The original beginning of Hrólfs saga kraka is now preserved, heavily crossed out, on fol. 115v in AM 342 4to, and the original ending, also heavily crossed out, on fol. 1r in AM 587c 4to.

Acquisition

Árni Magnússon got the manuscript in 1702.
