Catchwords on every tenth verso page from fols 10 to 170 and 187 to 307, then irregularly on fols 325v, 341v, 357r, 357v and 373v.

Layout

Written in one column with 21 to 32 (usually 25 to 27) lines to the page. Running titles on fols 317v-329v, 332v-344v, 348v-363v and 364v-379v. Spaces are left open for initials.

Written by Jón Erlendsson.

On fol. 1r is written: “Virdulegur Herra Biskupen, M. Brynjolfur | Sveins son ad Skaalholte minn dygdarikur, og | Elskulegur Velgørda og Æt-brőder, gaf mer | þessa sogubook, enn eg gef hana nú doottur minne | Elene Hakonar doottur til eignar, skrifad ad | Brædratungu 31 Januarij. Anno 1675. | Helga Magnus dottir | e h” (only signature written by Helga Magnúsdóttur).

Binding

Bound in the original binding, imbossed dark leather with metal clasps and corner pieces. Size of binding: 335 mm x 223 mm x 81 mm.

Árni Magnússon wrote on a slip that was pasted to the front of the manuscript: “A bok in Folio med | hendi Sr Jons i Villinga | hollte: hia Jone Ha-|konar syne, kominne til | hans fra Latrafolke | enn til Helgv Magnusdottur fra M. Bryniolfe. | Noregs konunga s?gur. | Af Olafi Digurbein | Nornageste | Hemings þattur | Gautreki konungi. History

Origin

Written in Iceland in the seventeenth century by Jón Erlendsson (d. 1672).

Provenance

According to a note on fol. 1 bis, bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson gave the manuscript to Helga Magnúsdóttir who in return gave it in 1675 to her daughter Elín Hákonardóttir.

Acquisition

According to the AM-slip pasted in the front of the manuscript, Árni Magnússon got the manuscript from Jón Hákonarson.
