Physical Description
Parchment.
Foliated 1-35 in red ink by Kristian Kålund.
A large amount of catchwords are found.
Written in long lines with 35 to 45 lines to the page.
Written in a seventeenth century fracture hand.
Variants are written in another hand in the margin. According to Árni Magnússon's account on an accompanying slip, the variants come from a book belonging to lögmaður Sigurður Björnsson from Saurbær (1643-1723) and was written by lögréttumaður Sigurður Jónsson from Knörr (1633-1717); the source is presumably AM 281 4to.
Bound in a binding from 1700 to 1730 and 1880 to 1920. The binding has a parchment spine on which Árni Magnússon wrote: “Ragnars Saga Loðbrökar.” The original parchment cover - from a missal in Latin containing notes - was replaced by a marbled paper-cover in 1911. On the pastedown Kålund has noted the date 7/8-1911.
The parchment leaves have been transferred to Acc. 7 β Hs 2 (Graduale Gufudalense), now constituting fols 22 and 24.
- There are two accompanying slips
- The first is by Árni Magnússon: “Bryniolfe Einars son seiger, ad a | þessarre Ragnars Sỏgu sie hverki | hỏnd Kolbeins Hannesonar nie | Pals Sveinssonar. | Sera Gisle Alfsson seigest eigi þeck-|ia hỏndena a þessarre Ragn-|ars sỏgu. | Variæ Lectiones in margine erum tek-|nar ur Exemplarr Sigurdar Biỏrns-|sonar Lỏgmanns. Var i 4to med hen-|de Sigurdar Jonssonar a Knỏr.”
- The second slip, written by an unknown scribe, contains notes on Ragnar Lodbrók: “Sagann af Ragnare Lodbrők sem fordum var kongur yfer | Danmork Norege Svïarïke, Biarmalande finnlande, Einglande, Skot-|lande, Irlande, Windlande og Skot Saxlande : Dő i Englande þa hann hafde | kongur verid i 24. ar, Anno Christi 841. Reiknast af Chronologis | sa 57 i Danskra Konga tale. Þesse Saga hefst med Wolsunga | þætte af Sigurde Fofnisbana, [?]|”.
