Umbrot

  • The text is written in one column with 26-28 lines per page and 10-12 words per line.
  • The written area measures ca. 195 mm x 150 mm.

Ástand

The leaves are relatively clean, except for the first and last page, which are stained.

The edges are not trimmed and are darker than the rest of the leaves.

Some bifolia were repaired near the spine, using Japanese tissue.

Skrifarar og skrift
Skreytingar

The first initial was written considerably larger than the rest of the text (4 lines) and is decorated with additional strokes. Other initials span 1-2 lines and are emphasised by means of additional loops and curls.

The catchwords are decorated. A similar decoration is found on the facing pages (in the outer bottom corner of the rectos), even though no catchword occur.

Spássíugreinar og aðrar viðbætur

After the text was written, some parts were underlined and emphasized with "NB"s in the margins. Based on the ink used, this could, at least in part, be done by the scribe himself.

Band

The current binding is a modern standard half binding made in 1982 in Birgitte Dall's workshop.

An older binding is kept in the same box. It is a half binding with a white parchment spine, the boards covered by brown marbled paper. Previously, the cover of this binding consisted of reused parchment leaves from an antiphonary, but they were removed in Kålund's time (1911-1913) and transferred to AM Access. 7 b (Hs. 61).

Uppruni og ferill

Uppruni

The manuscript was written in Iceland. Kålund dates it to ca. 1700 (Katalog I, s. 583).

Ferill

According to his own statement, Árni Magnússon received a larger manuscript, of which this was a part, from Torfæus who had obtained the parts from Árni (see Kålund, Arne Magnusson i AM. 435 a-b, 4°).
