Most leaves are trimmed with the consequence of loss of text in the left side of the page. The following leaves have a greater loss of text:
  • f. 20: eight extant lines,
  • f. 25: the upper fourteen linjes are preserved,
  • f. 30: five extant lines,
  • f. 31: The bottom fourteen lines are preserved,
  • f. 34: fourteen extant lines.

Written in one column with fifteen lines per page. Pricking in the outer margins.
Skrift

Written by Jón Þorláksson who served as a scribe in the period ca 1450-1478.

[Decoration]

Green, gold, red or blue initials taking up 2-5 lines are found. More of them featuring a palmette in a contrasting colour.

Red rubrics and line fillers.

[Musical Notation]

Square notations in black four-line staves with a clef.

The scribe added corections in the margins. Instructions for rubrication are found in the margins.

Proveniens
Written in Iceland in the third quarter of the fifteenth century. A note in AM 266 4to informs that Sera Helgi Þorkelsson gave this gradual to Gufudalur kirke in 1470. This date is thus the terminus ante qvem for the origin of the manuscript.

Fol. 4r: a historiated initial showing the three wise men presenting gold, frankincense and myrrh to Mary and the baby Jesus.

Fol. 12r: a ruby and azure flourished initial taking up four lines, descenders in red and yellow.

Red, green, blue, ruby or brown ochre lombards taking up two to four lines; some of the initials feature a palmette in a contrasting colour.

There are thirteen square musical notations in black four-line staves with a clef.

Proveniens
Written in Iceland, in the third quarter of the fifteenth century, before 1472 (

Andersen 2008 p. 16

). This terminus ante qvem is based on the lack of The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary which became widespread across the Christian world after pope Sixtus IV' promulgation of 1472.
