Fysisk Beskrivelse / Kodikologi

Materiale

Paper.

Antal blade
39. Fols 15r and 28r and the lower half of fol. 27r are blank. 310 mm x 205 mm
Foliering

The manuscript was foliated 1-39 twice, first in red ink in the upper right hand corner by Kristian Kålund (now partly washed away as a result of conservation 1980-81), then later in pencil by Mariane Overgaard in the bottom margin.

Tilstand

The manuscript is defective, wanting approximately a third of the text, from the third to the end of the eighty-second chapter. Árni's transcription was used as the basis for an early edition, which was printed, but never actually published, in Copenhagen in 1741 under the title Æfi Dana-Konunga Eda Knytlinga Saga. Historia Cnutidarum regum Daniæ - in fact it is thought not unlikely that the middle section of the manuscript went missing while the edition was being prepared.

Layout

Written in long lines with 31 to 33 lines per page.

Skrift

Written by Árni Magnússon. He has exded most of the abbreviations of the exemplum, although some words, e.g. personal names, are retained in their original abbreviated form.

Tilføjet materiale

The text contains a large number of changes, corrections, and variant readings from the „membr.“ and other manuscripts by Árni Magnússon.

Indbinding

When Kålund compiled his catalogue, the manuscript was bound on wooden boards covered with vellum leaves from a Latin manuscript. During restoration and preparation for photographing from 16 October 1980 to 26 March 1981 this binding was removed and replaced with a BD-standard binding (by Birgitte Dall). The leaves from the Latin manuscript were also removed and catalogued as Acc 7b, manuscript 64 (binding wrapper lower board) and 131 (binding wrapper upper board).

Historie og herkomst

Proveniens

Written in Denmark c. 1700, according to Kålund (Katalog vol. I p. 12) and Carl af Petersens and Emil Olson (Sögur Danakonunga p. x).
